Community

We, as the children, parents and staff at St George’s, value the community that we are part of. Our pupils take part in sporting events and competitions with other local schools and support many local charities through fundraising events. These events run throughout the year and support a variety of causes such as Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Macmillan Coffee Mornings and Oldham Foodbank . Our pupils pride themselves on caring for their community and this is interweaved into our curriculum. Pupils enjoy learning about the community that they are growing up in and the local history of Shaw.

We celebrate our school community during our weekly LIGHT celebration assembly. Parents and carers are invited into school to join us in celebrating our pupils through class assemblies. We also look forward to visiting our affiliated church (St James’ Church) for curriculum learning opportunities and also to attend events throughout the year such as Remembrance Sunday. Our wider community of Trust family schools are also very important to us and we frequently team together for events such as half termly worship led by Mr Ford, the chaplain at The Blue Coat high school, and curriculum experience days. The Trust community doesn’t stop there, staff also work as a collective team accessing supportive training from others within the Trust.

Our amazing pupils seek to find ways of supporting others showing growing independence in their thoughts and caring nature, ‘shining their light’ through their actions. One example of this was a pupil who raised money for ‘Little Princess Trust’ by having her hair cut and donating it to charity – We are so proud of your community spirit Olivia!
