Mrs Wright
My name is Mrs Wright and I am also the school SENCO. The other members of staff who work in the Hive are Miss Smith, Miss Bulmer, Mrs Brindley and Mrs Fallon.
The Hive has been set up to provide individualised learning for some of our children with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and complex needs. The curriculum is bespoke and we adopt a blended approach. This means that alongside a developmentally appropriate curriculum, children will also access age-related learning with their peers whenever this is meaningful.
We feel that the Hive provides an inclusive approach, allowing children to develop independence, social skills, communication and optimising the purposeful engagement of every child.
Learning in the Hive is based around sensory stories. These stories provide the children with sensory stimulation and develop communication in a fun way. The stories rotate every 3 weeks, allowing children time to become fully immersed in the text. Children are encouraged to retell the stories using props and sensory objects in their independent learning time.
Each child follows a personalised daily routine which is flexible and altered to meet the changing needs of the child.
Children are regularly assessed using PIVATS and targets are updated regularly. This allows us to ensure that progress is carefully monitored. We have high expectations for all children, based upon their baseline assessments.
Below, is a list of the sensory stories that we will be covering this academic year.
