This term, we have lots of exciting learning ahead. We’ll be activating our prior knowledge to build on what we already know and tackle new challenges with confidence. With engaging activities, hands-on learning, and plenty of opportunities to explore new ideas, it’s going to be a fantastic term!

Let’s make this term amazing. See you all in class, ready to shine your lights!

Best wishes,
Mr. Parker and Mrs Crabtree

Important Information

PE is timetabled for Monday and Tuesday, so all children are required to come to school in their PE kits on these days. Please ensure that your child come to school in the correct PE kit, which can be viewed here.

Spellings will be given out on Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday (please return the completed spelling sheets on the day of the test). I will also upload them to this page. The common exception words (below) are the spellings that your child is expected to know by the end of the year. However, additional words may appear in the weekly spellings to aid the learning of spelling rules.

Reading is extremely important and serves as a doorway to the rest of the curriculum. Please attempt to read for at least 10 minutes a day with your child. At least once a week, on Friday, I’d like to review your child’s reading record and make any necessary book changes. If your child has selected a book that they dislike, please feel free to bring it back and change it.

As I’m sure you are already aware, times tables are very important. As a class, we have agreed to use TT Rockstars for a minimum of 10-15 minutes each day from Monday to Friday.

Year 3: Children should focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
Year 4: Children should practise all times tables up to 12 × 12, in line with the UK National Curriculum.

Come back to our class page regularly for updates.

Sorry. This form is no longer available.

What are we learning?

In English…

This spring half term in English, the children will be focusing their attention on the beautifully illustrated book The White Fox by Jackie Morris. Set in a cold, Arctic landscape, this text will inspire rich discussion, imagination, and high-quality writing.

Using the book as our stimulus, the children will first write a character description, developing vivid vocabulary and detailed language to bring the fox to life. We will then move on to producing a non-chronological report all about the Arctic fox, linking our English learning with our wider curriculum and strengthening our non-fiction writing skills.

This half term offers lots of opportunities for creativity, cross-curricular learning, and growing confidence in both reading and writing.

In Maths…

This spring term in maths, the children will continue to develop their understanding of multiplication and division, using a range of strategies to solve problems with increasing confidence and accuracy.

We will then move on to exploring length and perimeter, where the children will measure, compare, and calculate using different units. After this, our focus will shift to fractions, deepening understanding and applying this knowledge in a variety of contexts.

Finally, the children will be introduced to the first part of decimals, making important links between fractions and decimals to build strong foundations for future learning.

This spring term will be full of problem-solving, reasoning, and practical learning as the children continue to grow as confident mathematicians.

To support our learning, we’ll continue following the White Rose Maths scheme, giving us lots of opportunities to practise, problem-solve, and apply our skills in different ways.

In Science…

This spring term in science, the children will begin by exploring the topic of light. They will learn about light sources, how light travels, how shadows are formed, and why we need light to see.

Later in the term, we will move on to magnets and forces, where the children will investigate how magnets work, explore pushes and pulls, and discover how different forces affect the way objects move.

Through hands-on experiments and investigations, the children will develop their scientific enquiry skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

In RE…

This spring half term in Religious Education, the children will be exploring the question: “What do Hindus believe God is like?”

They will learn about key Hindu beliefs, including the idea of one supreme God (Brahman) expressed through many different forms. The children will explore important Hindu deities, symbols, and stories, and consider how these beliefs influence the way Hindus live and worship.

This topic will encourage thoughtful discussion, respect for different beliefs, and a deeper understanding of Hinduism and its values.

In History and Geography…

This spring half term in Geography, the children will be exploring the question: “Are all settlements the same?”

They will learn about different types of settlements, such as villages, towns, and cities, and compare how they vary in size, features, and purpose. The children will also investigate how settlements change over time and why people choose to live in different places.

Through map work, discussion, and comparison, the children will deepen their understanding of human geography and build on skills learned in previous years.
