Welcome Back! 🌟
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday, filled with fun, rest, and special moments with family and friends!
This term, we have lots of exciting learning ahead. We’ll be activating our prior knowledge to build on what we already know and tackle new challenges with confidence. With engaging activities, hands-on learning, and plenty of opportunities to explore new ideas, it’s going to be a fantastic term!
Let’s make this term amazing. See you all in class, ready to shine your lights!
Best wishes,
Mr. Parker, Mrs Crabtree and Mrs Quinn
PE is timetabled for Monday and Tuesday, so all children are required to come to school in their PE kits on these days. Please ensure that your child come to school in the correct PE kit, which can be viewed here.
Swimming for Year 4 children will take place on Tuesday afternoons until the end of the academic year. As representatives of our school, children are expected to demonstrate excellent behaviour, respect and responsibility at all times while travelling to and from the swimming baths and during their session. We will be reinforcing the importance of following all instructions given by school staff and swimming instructors to ensure that safety is upheld at all times.
Spellings will be given out on Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday (please return the completed spelling sheets on the day of the test). I will also upload them to this page. The common exception words (below) are the spellings that your child is expected to know by the end of the year. However, additional words may appear in the weekly spellings to aid the learning of spelling rules.
Reading is extremely important and serves as a doorway to the rest of the curriculum. Please attempt to read for at least 10 minutes a day with your child. This half term, we would love for the children continue to bring in their reading record and reading book each Friday. This allows me to review their progress, and help support their continued growth and enjoyment of reading. We are also very fortunate that on Friday afternoons, Mrs Monaghan will be joining us voluntarily to read with Dawn Class. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to enjoy extra reading time and develop their skills with support from another enthusiastic reader. Happy reading, and thank you for your continued support at home!
As I’m sure you are already aware, times tables are very important. As a class, we have agreed to use TT Rockstars for a minimum of 10-15 minutes each day from Monday to Friday.
• Year 3: Children should focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
• Year 4: Children should practise all times tables up to 12 × 12, in line with the UK National Curriculum.
Come back to our class page regularly for updates.
This term in English, the children will be reading Mr Penguin and the Lost Treasure by Alex T. Smith. This exciting and humorous story will inspire our learning and support the development of both reading and writing skills.
The children will be building on the writing features they have been developing throughout the year so far, continuing to strengthen their skills and apply them more independently. Alongside this, we will focus on deepening their understanding of the text through discussion and comprehension activities.
As part of this unit, the children will produce two key pieces of writing:
This work will help the children to develop their creativity, structure their ideas clearly, and apply key writing techniques with increasing confidence.
This summer term in maths, the children will shift their focus to fractions, deepening understanding and applying this knowledge in a variety of contexts.
The children will be introduced to the first part of decimals, making important links between fractions and decimals to build strong foundations for future learning.
This summer term will be full of problem-solving, reasoning, and practical learning as the children continue to grow as confident mathematicians.
To support our learning, we’ll continue following the White Rose Maths scheme, giving us lots of opportunities to practise, problem-solve, and apply our skills in different ways.
This term in Science, the children will be learning about electricity. They will explore how electrical circuits work and identify the different components needed to make them function, such as wires, bulbs, and batteries.
Through a range of hands-on practical activities, the children will build their own circuits and investigate how to make them work effectively. As part of this learning, they will also have the exciting opportunity to design and create a simple game, applying their knowledge of circuits in a fun and creative way.
We will also place a strong emphasis on working safely with electricity, helping children to understand potential hazards and how to use equipment responsibly.
This topic will help develop their scientific understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence in working practically.
This term in Religious Education, the children will be exploring the question: “What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?”
They will learn about the beliefs and practices of Hinduism, and how these are expressed in daily life by people living in Britain. The children will explore important aspects such as worship, celebrations, and values, and consider how faith can influence the way people live.
Through discussion, stories, and reflection, the children will develop their understanding of different cultures and beliefs, as well as respect for the diversity within our society.
This half term in Geography, the children will be exploring rivers and the water cycle. They will learn about how rivers are formed, the journey water takes, and the key processes involved in the water cycle.
To enhance their learning, we will be taking the children beyond the classroom on an educational visit to Castleshaw. During this visit, they will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of how rivers form in a real-life setting and take part in activities such as pond dipping.
This hands-on experience will help bring their learning to life and deepen their understanding of the natural world.
