Music

Music is expressing ourselves using instruments, singing, rhythms and melodies.

Vision for Music (Intent)

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. It brings together intellect and feeling, and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. As an integral part of culture, past and present, it helps pupils understand themselves and relate to others, forging important links between the home, school and wider world.

At ECSTG our music curriculum encourages pupils to develop their musical understanding, make musical judgements, apply their new learning, develop their aural memory, express themselves physically, emotionally and through discussion and create their own musical ideas. Pupils not only learn about music; they become musicians who are able to share and perform using their new skills. Successful participation in music will develop self-esteem, allowing them to shine their “light” with both skill and confidence. Our curriculum promotes teamwork, turn-taking, sense of leadership and allows cross-curricular learning. It is an effective medium for self-expression, engenders enjoyment, enhances co-operative working and promotes a sense of community.

Above all, East Crompton St George’s pupils should gain delight, enjoyment, satisfaction and a love of music.
